Jun. 4th, 2005 12:52 pmThe first thing Spike notices on the Bebop is how hot it is, like they're short on coolant; that's happened before.
"Hey, Jet?"
He hasn't let go of Beth's hand at all. He turns to her, all blue in the emergency lights... and then he hears it. And freezes.
"Voices, Beth. You hear them?"
Sounds on a ship can be magnfied. They can be confusing. They can be a hell of a lot louder or softer than they really are, and they echo. They float around and you hear them for longer than you should, and just when you think you've tracked them down, they can disappear. But he definitely hears talking.
"Sounds like the main cabin."
The sound of their feet on metal grating is so loud in contrast, and they get to the main cabin just in time to hear the voices end.
Spike lets out a small laugh. "It was the comm. Maybe someone left a message."
He's about to reach down and press a button when he looks out the main window. It's different from last time. He directs Beth's hand to what lies in front of them and he can't help but swallow once or twice. "Hey, look at that." It's a planet in the distance, and its surface is swirling with pale white and yellow and green and purple dusts and gases, almost obscuring it, except for the intense brightness increasing furiously behind it. He shields his eyes a little with his free hand. "Sunrise over Venus."
