January 13
Jan. 13th, 2006 12:09 pmThe good thing about all these damn boxes, Spike thinks, is that they're all really light. Because after all, promises are promises and that don't hurt yourself decree is still standing. Probably always will.
He's got a nice navy blue pen, 13 packages of gauze, 13 small square boxes, 13 ribbons. Well, shit, it's the 13th, how could he resist? He works methodically but quickly, just in case Beth finishes that shower a hell of a lot sooner than he anticipates. Good thing he has it all planned out in advance.
One word on each package of gauze; each one goes into a numbered box; each box gets a ribbon. It doesn't take him long at all.
( Beth's Birthday Present )
Satisfied, he lays the boxes out in order on the bed. Just one more thing: he thinks he has time. He hurries downstairs to the bar, peeking in the door before he opens it up again to make sure she's still in the shower. She is: he sets out the bowl of chocolate strawberries and a bottle of really nice champagne, icy and cold. The two champagne flutes are ready on the bedside table.
He hangs the shirt Elaine mended in the closet and then, thinking about it, takes off his jacket and hangs that there with it. It's nice to have those back.
He surveys the gifts on the bed and the champagne and chocolate strawberries and it all looks almost perfect. Still, nothing can match the smile he's wearing remembering last night.
