Nov. 9th, 2005 11:47 pmIf he could change one thing about the bar, he'd put a balcony outside their room, and on that balcony would be a really nice hot tub.
And he and Beth would be the only ones who ever got to use it, and it would always be clothing optional.
And they'd have a privacy shield of their very own.
Ah. That would be nice.
As they make their way back up the escalator to where the Swordfish waits, Spike squeezes Beth's hand. The InterPlanetary (once upon a time known as the InterContinental) was pretty damn nice. Okay, it was really damn nice. It had a pool and it had a hot tub and it had a sauna, and it had room service and it had a balcony and a big TV set and a really nice bed.
Their room just didn't have its own hot tub, and he got spoiled for that on Venus.
"Thanks for the night at the hotel, Marie Browning. I still think the martinis at that bar were better than the ones at the hotel, though."
It's a discussion he'd like to have every day, because he'd like to bring her on a new adventure every day. But life is rarely as accommodating as some fantasy, unfortunately. Still, he's determined to make the most out of every last minute they can wrestle out of this trip away, even though he can already feel from some unspoken place deep down inside that something's going to bring them back before he wants.
It always does.
But not just yet. First, there's more adventuring to be done. Not much beats a high-speed exit in a mono racer through the Earth's atmosphere for sheer thrill, and even if Beth decides to go somewhere else on the planet first, they'll end up leaving Earth eventually. And he'll make sure it's something she never forgets.
Hotshot my ass, Doohan. Where the hell do you think I learned it?
"Anyplace else you want to go while we're here on Earth?" He pulls up the latest rock shower report. East coast, west coast. Hell, he'd still take her anywhere, even if there were meteorites falling around them.
He'd take her anywhere on the planet. Anywhere she wanted to go.
Spike fires up the Swordfish; the engine jumps to life with a vibrant hum. Just like old times, only better.
Way better.
